I was out at the Northstar Bike Park again this weekend. This time is was for the 2nd Annual Livewire Classic on Sunday October 5th, 2008. Its the last race of the Northstar Downhill Series races and the most popular by far. With rain on Saturday the track was in perfect condition giving the huge turn out of over 200 racers one last time to remember why Northstar’s bike park is their favorite place to ride.

I got a whole lot of photos posted up here

What comes to mind when I say Downhill Race and Northstar Village? My answer, fully suspended mountain bikes kicking up tons of dust as they fly by my lens at over 20 miles per hour down a mountain filled with giant boulders, crazy dirt jumps and S-Turns designed to make scare the crap out of you.

Northstar Downhill Bike Park * Tahoe, CA * September 14th, 2008

This weekend was the 4th race in a series of 5 races taking place at the Northstar Village in Tahoe, CA. I was there to support a friend, Dan Kilgore, who has been tearing it up in the beginners class. He has taken 1st place in the last two races, and took second in this race. Not bad for way less then a year of riding, especially when you compare his 3:40 time to the fastest time of the day of 3:02, which was turned in by a pro rider! Oh and his time includes a 15sec delay for a hard crash he took in the very last turn of the track, in which he actually destroyed the concrete burm with the impact from his shoulder. The crash is also what led to him taking 2nd place in his class, 7sec behind the 1st place rider.

I just could not help myself but to bring along my camera to snap some photos. These guys were flying down the mountain and all I could do was rip film. Check out the shots I got over at the Portfolio page.

You can learn more about Northstar and their world class mountain resort at www.northstartahoe.com

I have been using Flickr.com to host a variety of my images for quite a while now. They have a feature called the Explore Page where the most interesting photos get posted automatically and you get to see them with out the hassle of searching the site endlessly.

Well the comes a little app from Big Huge Labs called scout. It does a search and tells you if you have any photos currently in the the Flickr Explore space or if they have since been dropped. The photo to the right is one of the 3 photos that I have had hit the explore page. I believe that it only hit because of the attention it gets for having a cute girl in it, but I wont complain.
